Again this year, we are privileged to feature Leadership DELTA, an outstanding national leadership program designed to assist collegiate sorors to become successful professionals in their chosen careers.

Leadership DELTA focuses on building and enhancing strong leadership skills, designing an effective career path based on career interests and goals, preparing to enter the workplace, and applying leadership skills effectively in professional, Delta, and community endeavors.  A one year program that begins in September 2010 and ends in August 2011, it is sponsored by General Electric Company again this year and includes features that are both challenging and exciting:

MENTORING

Each participant in Leadership DELTA will be paired with a mentor who understands both her field and what it takes to be successful on a short and long-term basis.

NATIONAL CONFERENCE

At a date and time to be announced later, all 2010-11 Leadership DELTA participants will spend an expense paid weekend of training during which time they will:

  • Gain exposure to a variety of high-profile, high-achieving speakers and facilitators;
  • Participate in a variety of leadership development training to improve their leadership skills;
  • Spend quality time with their mentors;
  • Practice effective resume writing and job interviewing; and
  • Learn good networking skills.

LEADERSHIP ASSIGNMENTS

At different times during the program year, Leadership DELTA participants, with the guidance of their mentors, will complete assignments that will continue to build their leadership skills and expose them to key leaders on their campuses and in their communities.

INTERNSHIPS AND JOB OPPORTUNITIES

General Electric, our sponsor, intends to offer opportunities for a number of internships and permanent positions available to Leadership DELTA participants.  Resume writing and interviewing skills training are provided during the Leadership Conference. Also, interviews may be conducted throughout the year.

REGIONAL CONFERENCE AND NATIONAL CONVENTION RECOGNITION

All 2010-2011 Leadership DELTA participants will be recognized during at the 2010 regional conferences.

Applicants should be majors in the fields of mathematics, science, engineering, computer science, business (finance, management, marketing).  However, strong applicants from other fields will be considered.

This program is of vital importance for moving African-American women to the top of the ladder in the workforce. It is also important for building the leadership capabilities Delta needs for the long-term success of the sorority.

High-achieving collegiate juniors and seniors for whom this program is appropriate are encouraged to apply.  The Application Selection Process will be conducted as "Rolling Admission".  Applicants can apply and be accepted within 45 days of receipt of application.  All applications must be received by August 30, 2010, and only complete application packages, which should include the following, will be considered:

  • An Online Application Form
  • Two (2) Letters of Recommendation
  • Statement of Purpose
  • A Current Transcript
  • A Resume
  • Two (2) Professional Photos
